Choose a project first. Buy the materials for that project, then add tools as you need them.
For paper projects
Start with a small pack of cardstock, ordinary paper for test pieces, good scissors, a ruler, a pencil, a glue stick, and ribbon or twine. Choose paper weight to match your equipment and folds.
For electronic cutting
Use the blade and mat recommended for your exact machine and material. Check manufacturer guidance before buying accessories. A scraper and suitable pen can be useful later; neither is essential to every project.
For manual die cutting
Check die and plate compatibility before buying. One versatile label or circle die can work across cards, gift tags, place cards, and party favors.
A more useful way to shop
