Make it, step by step
- Line a small tray with parchment and arrange the cookies flat-side up. Match each cookie to a chocolate drop: the cookie should be a little wider than the drop’s base. Make one sample before assembling the batch.
- Melt the chopped chocolate in a dry microwave-safe bowl at half power in 20-second bursts, stirring each time. Stop when a few small pieces remain, then stir until smooth. Follow the chocolate package’s instructions if they differ.
- Use a small dab of melted chocolate to attach the flat base of a chocolate drop to the flat side of a wafer. The pointed end should face away from the cookie. Rest the acorn on its side on parchment while the join starts to set.
- Use another tiny dab to attach one mini chocolate chip to the center of the exposed cookie top. Work gently so the first join stays in place. Let the acorns firm for about 20 minutes in a cool room; chill briefly if needed.
- Check that the chocolate has set before moving the acorns to a plate. Serve them lying on their sides, or tuck each into a little paper candy cup. Keep paper leaves and other craft decorations outside the food area.
Ingredients & serving notes
Usually contains milk, wheat and soy; check all packages, including shared-equipment warnings. These firm bite-size sweets and small chips are not appropriate toddler snacks.
Keeping it lovely
Store fully set acorns in a covered container in a cool, dry place. Follow the shortest storage guidance among your ingredients. Do not box them while the chocolate is soft.
For perishable food, use the USDA food-handling guidance. Times and results vary with ingredients and equipment.
Try the design with one cookie and one chocolate drop before buying supplies for a large party; sizes vary between brands.
