A gratitude paper chain to grow together
A few strips of paper become a growing record of little good things. No cutting machine required.

Gather the basics
Use colored paper, scissors, a ruler, pens and a glue stick or tape. Cut strips about one inch wide and eight inches long. Adults can prepare the strips in advance, especially when younger children are joining.
Write before joining
Invite each person to write or draw one thing they appreciate on a strip. Keep prompts concrete: a helpful neighbor, a favorite meal or a funny moment. Nobody needs to share a private thought or make their answer impressive.
Build the chain
Bend the first strip into a loop and secure the overlap. Pass the next strip through the loop before closing it. Continue, mixing colors as you go. Let adhesive dry before hanging, and test one joint first.
Choose a safe display
Hang the chain in an adult-managed area, away from heat sources and out of reach of small children and pets. It is decoration, not a wearable item or toy. Keep doors and walkways clear.
Save the words
At the end of the season, photograph the chain or open a few loops to save favorite notes in an envelope. Ask before photographing messages. This starter project has not been physically maker-tested.
Add one link on an ordinary Tuesday. The tradition does not need to wait for a holiday.
