STARTER GUIDE · AWAITING MAKER TESTING

Let’s make something lovely.

Before you begin: Stay within arm’s reach. Use age-rated washable materials; grown-ups handle cutting. Skip beads, buttons, loose magnets, batteries and other small parts around children who mouth objects. Display chains out of reach; do not wear them.

  1. 01

Choose how many days you want to count down. Ten links is a manageable start; a full Advent calendar is optional.

  2. 02

Cut broad paper strips about 3 × 20 cm. Give each maker a few strips.

  3. 03

Write one small action on each: draw a thank-you, tidy a shared shelf, call someone or read together.

  4. 04

Form the first strip into a loop and glue its overlap. Thread each new strip through the previous loop before closing it.

  5. 05

Let dry, then place the chain in a basket. Open one link a day and adjust any action that does not suit the day.

A little helpful detail

A countdown should reduce pressure. Keep the actions free or inexpensive.

Make it personal

Include family traditions and a few “choose your own kindness” links.

The diagram illustrates the project idea; it is not a maker-tested result. Allow additional drying time. Estimated materials cost excludes equipment. Check your equipment and material instructions, verify template dimensions, and make a sample before a batch.
