Thanksgiving · No machine
The table runner everyone helps make
Create a paper keepsake covered in drawings, thank-yous and tiny family stories.
STARTER GUIDE · AWAITING MAKER TESTING
Let’s make something lovely.
Before you begin: Stay within arm’s reach. Use age-rated washable materials; grown-ups handle cutting. Skip beads, buttons, loose magnets, batteries and other small parts around children who mouth objects.
- 01
Measure your table and cut paper to fit without dangling edges that a child could pull.
- 02
Tape the paper to a craft table. Mark a place for each person, leaving the serving area clear.
- 03
Invite toddlers to scribble with chunky crayons and older makers to draw someone or something they appreciate.
- 04
Ask grown-ups to write children’s exact words beside their pictures. Add the date and names in a corner.
- 05
Use the runner beneath place settings, away from candles and hot dishes. After dinner, photograph it and save favorite sections.
Make this before meal preparation so nobody has to create around hot dishes.
Make it personal
Ask “What made you smile this week?” for a prompt even young children can answer.
The diagram illustrates the project idea; it is not a maker-tested result. Allow additional drying time. Estimated materials cost excludes equipment. Check your equipment and material instructions, verify template dimensions, and make a sample before a batch.
