STARTER GUIDE · AWAITING MAKER TESTING

Let’s make something lovely.

Before you begin: Stay within arm’s reach. Use age-rated washable materials; grown-ups handle cutting. Skip beads, buttons, loose magnets, batteries and other small parts around children who mouth objects.

  1. 01

Fold one sheet in half. Adults cut evenly spaced slits from the fold, stopping 2 cm before the outside edge.

  2. 02

Unfold the sheet. Cut contrasting paper into strips slightly narrower than the gaps.

  3. 03

Weave the first strip over one section and under the next. Reverse that pattern on the following row.

  4. 04

Slide rows gently together and glue only the ends to the backing sheet.

  5. 05

Combine everyone’s panel on a large card, leaving a border between them. Sign the finished family patchwork.

A little helpful detail

Use 2–3 cm strips for an easier first weave.

Make it personal

Choose colors for a holiday or let each person represent their favorite place.

The diagram illustrates the project idea; it is not a maker-tested result. Allow additional drying time. Estimated materials cost excludes equipment. Check your equipment and material instructions, verify template dimensions, and make a sample before a batch.
