Make a tiny stop-motion paper film
Turn homemade paper characters into a short animation using a phone and a steady setup.
STARTER GUIDE · AWAITING MAKER TESTING
Let’s make something lovely.
Before you begin: An adult secures the device and handles any cutting. Keep stands and cables away from toddlers.
- 01
Choose one simple action: a pumpkin rolls in, a star rises or a paper friend waves. Draw six storyboard boxes.
- 02
Tape the background down and secure the phone where it cannot fall. Keep lighting steady and turn off flash.
- 03
Place the character, take a frame, move it a tiny amount and take another. Keep hands out of the shot.
- 04
Capture about 40–60 frames for a short first experiment. Play it back slowly and adjust the speed to suit your story.
- 05
Export to your device and watch together. Ask permission before sharing any family voices or faces online.
One small movement per frame produces smoother motion than large jumps.
Make it personal
Make a Hanukkah star appear, a Christmas tree grow or a family thank-you message unfold.
The diagram illustrates the project idea; it is not a maker-tested result. Allow additional drying time. Estimated materials cost excludes equipment. Check your equipment and material instructions, verify template dimensions, and make a sample before a batch.
