A giant color-road mural
Make a floor-level paper mural with broad crayon roads and big shared drawings.
STARTER GUIDE · AWAITING MAKER TESTING
Let’s make something lovely.
Before you begin: Stay within arm’s reach. Use age-rated washable materials; grown-ups handle cutting. Skip beads, buttons, loose magnets, batteries and other small parts around children who mouth objects.
- 01
Tape the sheet to a clean, dry low table or floor where it will not create a trip hazard.
- 02
Draw two broad, curving roads. Invite your toddler to add marks alongside them.
- 03
Add a big house, tree and pond using simple shapes. Describe what your child draws without correcting it.
- 04
Invite another family member to add a destination and a path connecting it.
- 05
Photograph the mural and remove the tape when finished. Revisit it later with a new color.
Offer room to make big movements rather than asking for precise lines.
Make it personal
Draw familiar places: home, the park, a library or a grandparent’s house.
The diagram illustrates the project idea; it is not a maker-tested result. Allow additional drying time. Estimated materials cost excludes equipment. Check your equipment and material instructions, verify template dimensions, and make a sample before a batch.
